DAY 2, LIFE BY THE SPIRIT
Today's reading is Deuteronomy 11:8
“Observe therefore all the commands I am giving you today.”
God wants to speak to you today. In Matthew 6:11, Jesus teaches us to pray: “Give us today our daily bread.”
It is through His Word that the Holy Spirit brings direction to our lives. His Word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Psalm 119:105). His Word is the most precious gift that we can ever receive and we must cherish it and hold on to it in every season that we face.
God wants us to live everyday by His Word. This is how we build our lives with confidence and security. Jesus explains this to us Matthew 7:24-28:
“‘Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.’”
It is through God’s Spirit that His Word comes to life in our lives. When you pray and read the Bible, ask the Holy Spirit to speak to you. Hebrews 4:12 teaches us that His word is “alive and active.” It builds our faith as “faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ” (Romans 10:17).
The apostle Paul said in 1 Thessalonians 1:5, “our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction.” When you read the Bible, let the Holy Spirit apply it to your life, let Him transform you by His power so that you may live with a deep conviction that can only come from God.
Everyday as a church we must commit ourselves to prayer so that we may live lives “in step with the Spirit” (Galatians 5:25), alert to God, submitted to Him and sensitive and responsive to what he is saying. We need to build a culture of ‘hearing’ the Word and ‘obeying’ and living the Word in every area of our lives.
Churches that are healthy and grow are churches that passionately seek the Lord, are filled by His spirit and follow wholeheartedly in His footsteps. We must determine together to be such a church.
Prayer
Thank you for the precious gift of your word. Thank you Lord that you are trustworthy and faithful and guide me in life. Fill me with your spirit and help me follow in your footsteps. Let your will be done in my life. Speak to me today and everyday. Direct my steps and guide my paths.
Declaration
The Spirit of God has made me. The breath of the Almighty gives me life through the power of His word. As a church we will be faithful disciples that are quick to hear and obey the word putting it into practice in our daily lives.
